Dear AWE Members

Due to our concern for our member’s health and safety, we have kept on hold and cancelled some of our 2020 Events that had been planned in different countries in Europe.

AWE Germany 2nd May 2020 Event Cancelled

AWE Holland 27th July 2020 Event ON Hold

AWE UK 19th September 2020 ON Hold

We will keep you updated on any other changes that may arise depending on situations in the respective countries.

But we can confirm that all the cancelled event will be postponed to Next year 2021. For those who have paid we are happy to refund your payment by claiming it from Eventbrite or email us info@africanwomenineurope.eu

We will also be holding Online meetings on Zoom this year and you will be invited to this meeting to participate. We plan to do this every Month.

We are praying for all nation that the Coronavirus -19 issue will disappear and we can all go on with our lives.

Dr. Pierrette Herzberger-Fofana

Dr. Pierrette Herzberger-Fofana, was city councilor in Erlangen (2005-2019), lecturer at the university and high school teacher at Ohm-Gymnasium. In May 2019, she was elected as a member of the European Parliament. The first vice chair of the development committee.

Herzberger-Fofana was particularly active in Erlangen in the areas of intercultural dialogue / integration, education and young people, women and seniors. In Erlangen, she is co-founder of the “International Weeks Against Racism” and initiator of “School Without Racism” at the Ohm-Gymnasium. In 2015 she launched the “Black History Weeks”, an annual series of events on the history and importance of the African diaspora in Germany and beyond.

The “Black History Weeks” build on the United Nations’ international UN decade for people of African origin 2015-2024, the motto of which is: “Recognition, Justice and Development”. Because millions of people are still victims of racism and discrimination, racial profiling, xenophobia and related intolerance in the world.

Ms. Herzberger-Fofana is the first African woman to be elected to a city council in Germany. She is also among others Founding member and ex-chair of FORWARD-Germany e. V., an association that works to abolish female genital mutilation, is a member of the “Helene Weber Network” and the “Association of Mandates of African Descent”. The doctor of politics is committed to empowering girls and women with a special focus on migrant women, as well as against violence against women, discrimination and racism.

In 2003 she received the “Grand Prize of the President of Senegal for Research and Science” in Dakar (Senegal). In 2009, she was promoted by the then Federal Minister of Family Affairs, at the moment EU President, Dr. Ursula von der Leyen awarded the “Helene Weber Prize”.

Herzberger-Fofana moved into the European Parliament on the 21st place in the European list of Alliance 90 / The Greens in the 2019 European elections in Germany 2019.[4] She has since been serving on the Committee on Development.

Linda Ochwada

Linda Ochwada is the founder and managing director of AfroAI UG (haftungsbeschränkt), a software consulting company based in Berlin. She is also the co-founder and vice-president of Kenderaalala Women Group (KAWG)- Samia, a CBO which aims at increasing the income and improving the livelihood of women in Samia District, Kenya.

She attained a masters degree in Geodesy and Geoinformation Science from the Technical University Berlin before she worked as a Geo-Data Scientist in Berlin. With interest in sustainable and climate-sensitive entrepreneurship, she took an add-on masters program, “EIT Climate-KIC” from the European Institute of Innovation & Technology and TU Berlin. She was recently invited to the Deutscher Bundestag to talk on “the chances of Artificial Intelligence in Africa, for economic growth and development”.

Outside her professional journey, she works as a mentor and “e-counsellor” to girls in Kenya and Nigeria who need help in education and career paths.
